My first foray. I did regional events with an ex-Neil Jenkins YZF750-SP that had all the good parts taken off it by Dean Plater! I scored 2 top ten finishes in amateur formula class.

I bought a 1999 Yamaha R1 and drove it all summer. It was bigger than my last bikes (VF500, GSXR750) and handled great but I had no where to use the handling. What a waste!
I did a track day at the end of that year and decided to get into racing the year after.
