Hard work pays off at Fabi:
Elie Daccache scores professional and personal best at Race Super Series round 5!
Determined to push my 53-Racing.com ZX6R to its limits at the RACE regional, I did some testing at Fabi prior to the race and the results looked promising going into the weekend. That testing really paid off at the Fabi Round at Shannonville Motorsport Park!
I brought my lap times down consistently throughout the weekend and qualified on the front row (4th) for Pro 600 with a time of 1.06.1 and then in Superbike qualifying pulled off another 1.06.1 which was good for a 5th place start!
When Sunday came, one of the support classes needed an extra rider so I volunteered with the help of Chris Chapelle (who lent me his 125GP bike!). I practiced all morning on the 125 and my lap times kept coming down. That little bike was SO MUCH FUN! During the 125 race I was in a battle for second spot for a lap and then the leaders checked out. I finished 3rd in that race and also set the second fastest lap of the race! I hope I get another opportunity to try out a 125!
Back to 4-strokes though, in the Pro 600 race I launched hard off the line in 3rd position but was eventually passed under power by Mark Douglas and then half way through the race on the back straightaway Alain Larouche powered by me like I was still on the 125. These racers all have big motor. I tried to wring every last horsepower out of my stock ZX6R to keep up with Alain and dived deep into corners with the fastest corner speeds I had ever experienced- only to have all the infield work thrown away on the back straight away! I settled for 5th spot with a fastest lap of 1.06.1- only a few bike lengths back from Alain. It was a terrific battle!!!
The Superbike race was a carbon copy of the Pro 600 race except that a few 1000s got away at the beginning of the race. I tried harder to pass Alain but his acceleration on the straightaway killed me. I got into a few dicey situations going hot and fast into corners but I had a fresh set of Pirellis on and was very confident and set my fastest time in this race with a 1.05.8 - My fastest time ever on this track! There is no doubt with some more setup and more motor I will be on the podium next year!
I would like to thank Jason and Mr. Thoms at the Goodtime Centre for all their help this year, Clark LaPrairie for the help over the weekend (I did all the work myself and I was exhausted- but still managed some awesome racing!) and also Chris Chapelle for lending me his 125GP bike! Special thanks to Kevin at Pirelli for finding me the right tire and last but not least KANATA COLLISION for fixing my bodywork from my Mosport crash! Without any of you none of this would be possible!
